Survivor recounts last words by Pwani University driver minutes before the accident

Pwani University driver's last word to the students minutes after the bus breaks failed

Pwani University driver’s last word to the students minutes after the bus breaks failed.

According to a survivor who testified about the tragedy on Friday, March 31, the Pwani University bus driver instructed everyone on board to fasten their seatbelts minutes before the collision.

The student claimed that as the bus approached the Kayole area in Naivasha, the driver raised an alert after realizing that the bus’s brakes were faulty.

In his message, the driver advised the students to put on the safety belts to ensure that they were safe in the event of any eventualities.

The survivor said that the bus driver made an extra effort to stop the bus in order to spare their lives but all in vain.

It was revealed that the driver swerved along the road in search of potholes and bumps which would help reduce the speed of the vehicle.

All these efforts proved futile after the bus collided with a 14-seater matatu before overturning on the drainage adjustment on the Nairobi – Nakuru Highway.

“It was such bad luck that the brakes of our bus failed. The driver told everyone on the bus to put on their seatbelts. It is like he knew what was going to happen.

“After that, he tried controlling the vehicle and even aimed to hit bumps to see whether the bus would slow down but that proved futile,” he stated.

The Pwani Bus accident, which occurred on Thursday, March 30, has been blamed on the failure of the brakes.

However, what caused the brake system to fail was yet to be established.

18 people lost their lives in the accident while scores sustained major and minor injuries.

However, according to students at the institution based in Kilifi County, the vehicle was not in good shape.

The students staged protests in the school as they questioned why a faulty bus was allowed to take out students.

The students were traveling to Eldoret for school games.
