A 22-year-old man was fatally shot in Mukwa village, Kakamega County, on Tuesday, February 20, following an altercation with the police.

Officers responded to a distress call from the deceased’s older brother, who said that his younger sibling was threatening to hurt their 68-year-old mother, according to a police report from the Navakholo Police Station.

The man, who had a history of drug usage, had a knife, a jembe, and a panga with him. He was chasing his mother around the compound with the intention of seriously hurting her.

Upon arrival at the scene, the team of officers led by Navokholo OCS Kennedy Odongo found a frantic mother, and the suspect in her pursuit.

Police officers intervened to calm the suspect, but he redirected his anger towards the OCS, attempting to strike him on the head with the jembe.
