Two suspects arrested for impersonating immigration officers while conning a Norwegian seeking a Kenyan work permit KSh 370k

Two suspects arrested for impersonating immigration officers while conning a Norwegian seeking a Kenyan work permit KSh 370k.

Officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested two men for allegedly impersonating Immigration officials at Nyayo House and attempting to defraud a Norwegian national of Ksh.370,000.

The suspects; Patrick Kizengwa Kilaya and Billy Kidula Adingo, were nabbed on Thursday for reportedly extorting money from the public purporting to have the capacity to issue passports and work permits within a short period.

According to the EACC, the duo was arrested after the victim, instead of giving the bribe, opted to report the matter to the commission.

“They claimed that they were in a position to assist him to secure a Kenyan work permit and other Immigration documents, within minutes,” a source at EACC said.

The EACC further revealed it had instituted investigations into allegations some immigration officials at Nyayo House were colluding with impostors to irregularly and fraudulently issue immigration documents.

This comes after Interior CS, Kithure Kindiki banned idlers from hanging around Nyayo House as the government moved to streamline services.

Kindiki had earlier stated that no person will be allowed to hang around Nyayo House adding that access will only be granted to applicants with the necessary documents and staff members.

“The crackdown on cartels extorting applicants of passports and other vital citizenship documents at the immigration department is on, and all those involved in the criminal acts will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he said.
