  • Wajackoyah confronted journalist at Bomas as he arrive for presidential result announcement

Wajackoyah confronted journalist at Bomas of Kenya as he arrive for presidential result announcement.

Roots Party presidential candidate, George Luchiri Wajackoyah, confronted a journalist as he made his way into the National Tallying Centre at the Bomas of Kenya, Nairobi.

Wajackoyah called out the journalist and asked him to stop taking photos and recording videos of his entourage.

The irate presidential candidate for the Roots Party accused the journalist of disseminating false information about his family.

He added that the journalist even shared photos of his rural home, which he argued was exposing his private life.

“You have something wrong with my home?” Wajackoyah posed while arriving at Bomas of Kenya for the final presidential election results announcement.

“You went and told people lies about my family. Then you are running here, you want to take photos and videos of me.”

He, however, did not disclose the identity of the journalist who angered him.

He later made his way to the main auditorium and embraced his Agano Party counterpart, David Mwaure. The latter conceded defeat and threw his weight behind Deputy President William Ruto.

  • Kikuyu elders speak on Raila Odinga choice for presidency “Our community made an emotional decision”

Kikuyu elders speak on Raila Odinga choice for presidency claiming the Mt Kenya people made an emotional decision at the ballot.

On Sunday, the Kikuyu Council of Elders acknowledged that before deciding to support the Azimio la Umoja coalition and its presidential nominee Raila Odinga, it had not accurately analyzed the political atmosphere in the Mt. Kenya region.

The results, which saw Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance surpass Azimio by decisively taking over the region’s political soul, are cause for reflection, according to the council’s chairman, Mr. Wachira Kiago.

“We concede defeat but that is not to say we were wrong. Just like the way Jesus Christ who was a messiah was crucified by the decision of the majority, it turned out that the majority are not always right,” he said.

Mr. Kiago claimed that the council of elders does not make choices based on emotions or the will of the people but rather assesses the issue and provides advice based on wisdom.

He claimed that some people are mocking the elders for taking a political stance that the electorate utterly rejected.

“We said we supported President Uhuru Kenyatta to be our kingpin even after retiring. We settled for supporting Raila Odinga as the most ideal presidential candidate to succeed Kenyatta. That remains the wisest stand for our community regardless of the outcome of the vote,” he said.

“Our community made an emotional decision and it is a matter of time before they sober up and see our point,” he said.

“Our people will soon see the grave mistake they made to sell their souls to William Ruto and trusting their fate in his hands without even [having] a political party of their own,” he added.

However, a Kikuyu elders splinter group led by President Kenyatta’s first cousin Kung’u Muigai said “the decision that our voters took was genius”.

He said that Mr. Kiago and his group pursued their own interests in endorsing Raila Odinga for the presidency.

“As it is always the case when all dealings in the cover of darkness get bared, it has now emerged that all along, they had no people behind their political declarations,” Muigai said.

“It is ridiculous to say that you represent the people and they are behind your declarations only to be left standing by yourself when the vote is called,” he added.

  • Police trace the missing IEBC official as his search continues

Search for missing IEBC official, Daniel Musyoka continues as the police uncover his final moments.

Police have uncovered CCTV footage that shows the last moments of Daniel Musyoka, the missing Embakasi East Returning Officer, before he vanished on Thursday, August 11.

According to a police report, Musyoka walked out of the tallying centre and headed to a nearby bus stop.

According to the officer who has knowledge of the situation, Musyoka was relaxed and showed no signs of concern.

Police went on to prove that, contrary to what had been reported in early reports, Musyoka had not made or received any calls.

Further, investigations revealed that Musyoka was not being followed by any car or person.

The report says that his mobile phone signal disappeared an hour after he went missing.

The phone’s last location was in Mihang’o,in Utawala, around 10am.

By the time the IEBC official went missing, he was about to declare the winners in the National Assembly and County Assembly contests.

Those who interacted with him said he excused himself to pick a call before he went missing.

His deputy took over and announced the results.

Past reports had indicated that the IEBC official had excused himself in order to pick up a phone call before he mysteriously vanished.

Musyoka has been a person of interest after he mysteriously vanished on Thursday, August 11. The report broke after IEBC chair, Wafula Chebukati, raised an alarm.

“The Returning Officer has been reported missing from the Embakasi tallying center. Reports received by the Commission indicated that at around 9 am yesterday, he was escorted to the tallying center by his bodyguard.

“At around 9:45 am, he excused himself to make a phone call but did not return to the office,” Chebukati stated on Friday, August 12.

Musyoka’s family also called on Kenyans to aid in finding their kin, noting that they have visited various hospitals and morgues but could not trace him.

Tabitha Mbolu, Musyoka’s wife, pointed out that her final conversation with her husband did not reveal any signs that he faced any challenges at work.

“We usually spoke before he left for work and when he returned in the evening. I last spoke to him at midday on Wednesday.

“He admitted that the work was a lot, but assured me that he would come home as soon as he was done. He did not tell me that he had any issues at work,” Tabitha narrated.

She further revealed that efforts to reach him on phone have since been futile.

Azimio wins National Assembly majority seats but the 12 independents may tilt in favour of Ruto’s coalition if he’s declared the winner of the presidential elections.

The battle for the control of Parliament will continue as the already declared results show a neck-and-neck race, with Raila Odinga’s Azimio Coalition leading in the National Assembly and Deputy President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance ahead in the Senate.

Azimio boasts a 162-159 advantage at the National Assembly while Kenya Kwanza controls the Senate with 24 seats against Azimio’s 23.

However, the 12 independent MPs elected will determine who controls the National Assembly depending on whichever way they will cast.

The 12 independents may guarantee a confirmed majority for Azimio, or tilt the tables in favour of Kenya Kwanza.

Azimio wins National Assembly majority seats

In Azimio, ODM has 86, Jubilee (27), Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper (24), Democratic Action Party-Kenya (5), Kanu (5), UDM (5) and United Party of Independent Alliance, UPIA (2).

Those with one MP each are former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo’s United Democratic Party (1), United Progressive Alliance, GDDP, Movement for Democracy and Growth, KUP, and National Ordinary People Empowerment Union as well as the National Alliance Party of Kenya.

Kenya Kwanza, UDA has 116 MPs and 21 woman representatives.

Others are ANC (7), Ford-Kenya (6), Pamoja African Alliance (3), Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua’s Maendeleo Chap Chap (2), National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi’s Democratic Party (1), ex-Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto’s Chama Cha Mashinani (1) and former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri’s The Service Party (1).

    List of independent candidates

The MPs elected as independents are Rahim Dawood (Imenti North), Ronald Karauri (Kasarani), Elijah Njoroge (Gatundu North), Shakeel Shabbir (Kisumu East), Timothy Toroitich (Marakwet West), Joshua Mwalyo (Masinga), Nebert Muriuki (Mbeere South), Geoffrey Mulanya (Nambale) and Kitilai Ntutu (Narok South).

On the Woman Rep front, those elected as independents are Migori’s Fatuma Mohamed, Caroline Ngelechei (Elgeyo-Marakwet), and Monica Muthoni (Lamu).

However four constituencies – Rongai, Kacheliba, Pokot South, and Kitui Rural – had their polls postponed due to ballot papers mix-up.

  • Rachel Ruto sends message to UDA supporters ahead of presidential results announcement “the baby is ours”

Rachel Ruto sends a cryptic message to Kenya Kwanza supporters ahead of the announcement of the presidential results.

Deputy President William Ruto’s wife, Rachel Ruto, expressed her optimism that the results wouldn’t be tampered with or altered to favor any of the presidential contenders during a church service on Sunday, August 14.

Rachael expressed confidence that the IEBC, headed by Wafula Chebukati, would declare the winner in the presidential contest based on the total votes, alluding to the Biblical account of King Solomon and two women claiming possession of a baby after one of the babies was found dead.

“We are praying that someone will not sleep on our baby and kill him. And let there be no exchange,” Rachael stated.

“There shall be no exchange in the name of Jesus!”

Rachel expressed optimism that her husband’s victory was imminent and asked the leaders allied to Kenya Kwanza and Ruto’s supporters to keep calm and wait for IEBC’s final announcement.

She said the electorates had done their civic duty on Tuesday, August 9, and now it was time to protect the votes and make sure the counting procedure was open.

“Our baby was born on August 9 (referring to Ruto’s win), but he has not been discharged from the hospital. Let us pray that the baby will be discharged safely to us (referring to the final announcement by IEBC on the presidential race),” Rachel stated.

On the other side, Ruto appreciated Kenyans who participated in the democratic process.

He also lauded the leaders who had been declared winners by IEBC in various elective positions.

At a different Church service event, Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, called for peace amid the chaos witnessed at the National Tallying Centre located at the Bomas of Kenya.

“Lord, make us instruments of Thy peace. Where there is hatred, let us sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is discord, a union; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy,” Raila prayed.

“We want to thank the Lord for having brought us so far, through election campaigns. Elections have been peaceful so far; we hope this peace will prevail even after elections.”

  • Azimio leaders blocked from Bomas tallying centre as verification continues

Azimio leaders blocked from Bomas tallying centre as verification process of presidential results continues.

Leaders allied to the Azimio coalition were Sunday afternoon temporarily barred from accessing the national tallying centre at the Bomas of Kenya.

While trying to enter the Bomas premises, the leaders were locked out for hours and questioned why the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) was preventing authorized presidential agents from entering.

The leaders, included, elected Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna, elected Siaya governor-elect James Orengo, Kisumu governor-elect Anyang Nyong’o, former Laikipia governor Nderitu Muriithi, and Makadara MP-elect George Aladwa.

This comes after on Saturday, commissioner Abdi Guliye ordered non-essential people out of the main auditorium where tallying was ongoing, saying only accredited party agents, media, observers and IEBC staff would be allowed.

Azimio leaders blocked from Bomas tallying centre as verification process of presidential results continues

The chief agent for Raila, Ndiritu Muriithi asked Chebukati to come clean with Kenyans.

“We find it suspicious that the electoral commission in coordination with police officers have locked out of the tallying center yet its our business being here?”Muriithi posed.

“How do you explain me being locked out of Bomas as the chair of the Azimio presidential campaign and as an accredited agent? Chebukati must come clean to Kenyans,” he said.

Normally when you are accredited, you are allowed to get to Bomas.

“We are explaining to the officers that what happens to Kenyans is on their hands,” he said.

Even though eventually they were allowed to access the venue, they were however barred from the auditorium where tallying is ongoing.

The security officials ushered them to the VIP lounge.

  • Night of chaos at Bomas as the verification of presidential results (VIDEO)

Verification of presidential results is still ongoing at Bomas of Kenya with only two days for the IEBC to call the election results.

However, with the increasing pressure on the IEBC to speed up its seeming slow verification process, chaos erupted at the Bomas of Kenya on the night of Saturday, August 13.

Agents allied to the Azimio coalition were alleging irregularities in the verification of the presidential results exercise.

A section of them alleged that some IEBC officials were colluding with their opponents to alter results and sneak in Forms 34 A.

Videos broadcast live from the National Tallying Centre showed an IEBC official being roughed up in the auditorium.

In the incident aired live on major TV stations, the IEBC official was roughed up from his seat.

A commotion ensued as the official was seen holding a gadget in an apparent attempt to block another man from seizing it.

The gadget was the genesis of the chaos in the auditorium and Nairobi Women Rep Esther Passaris was seen dragging an individual amidst the drama.

A man who was in of the lawmaker is seen forcefully taking the alleged foreign gadget from the IEBC official before handing it over to another lady who quickly left the auditorium.

Anti-riot police quickly swung into action eventually leading the man outside the auditorium.

Azimio’s chief agent expressed extreme disapproval of what had happened inside the auditorium and questioned the validity of the counting procedure up to that point in a statement to the media.

Saitabao Ole Kanchory, the chief agent for Raila Odinga, had a confrontation with police after they refused to let him inside the tallying area.

“I want to tell the country that Bomas is a scene of a crime,” Saitabao stated before being he was escorted out of the podium by an unidentified person.

In a separate incident outside, party agents accosted an individual they claimed was an IEBC official allegedly engaged in electoral malpractice.

The woman was saved by police officers as party agents demanded she hands over what they claimed to be electoral material that she planned to sneak into the auditorium.
