CS Mutua slams Kalonzo for calling Kambas cowards

Mutua slams Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka for calling Kambas cowards for not taking part in demonstrations.

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has come under fire from Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua for calling the Kamba community cowards.

Mutua disagreed with Kalonzo’s claim that the Kamba’s would fight for a lost cause in a statement on Friday.

He said that widespread violence and property destruction are not supported by the community.

“I wish to humbly and with a lot of respect, inform him that the world and Kenya prefer peace to violence. This is not because a certain community – Kambas in this case – are cowards. NO – it is because they are just not violent and do not approve of Maandamano, violence, looting, and destruction of property,” Mutua stated.

He added, ” Kenyans and indeed Kamba’s are intelligent people and do not engage in futility. People know the reality and no amount of desperation will get us to participate in a lost cause: You really want our relatives to burn their businesses in Machakos, Kitui, Mwingi, Wote etc to be seen to be brave? Engaging in violence and unjustified processes do not make one a hero. They, instead, expose one’s desperate underbelly.”

The former Machakos Governor went on to say that the community has many issues which can’t be addressed by participating in protests.

“Kenyans, and especially the Kamba community, have many issues that they desperately need to deal with. Engaging in insurrection, destruction of property, bringing tension and scaring away investors who will provide jobs to the children of the many (you violent-causing elite already handed your kids plum jobs), is not part of our wisdom,” said Mutua.

Mutua’s statement comes after on Wednesday Kalonzo stated that the Kamba community displayed cowardice during Azimio demonstrations.

He called on the community to emulate Luos if they want to win the Presidency.

“Kambas displayed utmost cowardice during the demonstrations. Kambas should emulate Luos to win the presidency.

“If you Kambas behaved like Luos, this seat we would clinch the following day. The cowardice that we displayed… If we were like Musembi, the whole nation would take notice. These things are never given, they are grabbed. You go for it!” said Kalonzo.

“We can’t have peace talks in a toxic environment”, Orengo to Ruto

James Orengo urges President Ruto to establish a conducive environment for peace talks to take place.

Governor James Orengo of Siaya has asked President William Ruto to provide a friendly atmosphere so that they can dialogue in peace.

Orengo said they cannot have conversations with the president whereas those surrounding him are spewing vitriol.

He was speaking at the Bondo Municipality launch on Wednesday at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Park.

“Ruto, you must create an enabling environment for us to have sober and logical discussions about the issues that are confronting the nation. You must create that enabling environment,” Orengo said.

He questioned how the discussions will take place when leaders like Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua are around.

“If you have hyenas and jack-outs and wolves like Gachagua, how can you carry on discussions when you have those kinds of characters?” Orengo asked.

“You cannot have a discussion when the people around you are spewing hatred.”

His comments come after those close to the president including DP Gachagua and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah are against the idea of dialogue.

Kimani Ichung’wah on Wednesday, April 5, threatened to write to the International Criminal Court (ICC) over Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s political agenda.

Ichung’wah was dismissing the proposal by opposition chief Raila Odinga to have talks akin to the National Accord 2008.

He asserted that the ODM leader was using violence and disorder to blackmail the country and get access to the system of government.

DP Gachagua has already expressed his dissatisfaction on the said talks stating that he won’t participate there should be handshake with Raila.

“Even if there is a handshake, I as Rigathi Gachagua will not be there,” he said.

Raila Odinga unveils the seven Azimio member team to face UDA in the bipartisan parliamentary engagements.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga has unveiled the seven members who will face the team from Kenya Kwanza for bi-partisan negotiations at parliament.

Narok Senator Ledama ole Kina and his Nairobi counterpart Edwin Sifuna are among a team of seven legislators who were picked by Azimio for bi-partisan parliamentary engagements.

Others in the list sent by Kanu party secretary of political affairs, Fredrick Okango are Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua, Amina Mnyanzi (Malindi), Millie Odhiambo (Suba North), David Pkosing (Pokot South), and Otiende Amollo (Rarieda).

The team was picked during the Azimio la Umoja parliamentary group meeting in Machakos County.

The ODM boss chaired the meeting which was also attended by the coalition’s top leadership including Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

Azimio picked the team of seven following the faction’s agreement to call off demonstrations and engage with the government side on four issues they had raised.

President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza is yet to release its list of parliamentarians to engage with Azimio.

In the meeting, the Raila-led faction reiterated the need to have the team expanded outside parliament as they maintained that they were not interested in sharing the government.

Meanwhile, Azimio also resolved to eject nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege as its Minority Whip in the National Assembly.

The Coalition, however, did not immediately replace the former Murang’a Woman Representative in the highly-contested position.

Sabina had long been castigated for declaring her support for the Kenya Kwanza administration during her visit to the State House on January 28, 2023.

In the meeting, Sabina called on citizens to support President William Ruto and back Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as Mount Kenya’s Kingpin.

“When we support Gachagua from the ground then he will be much respected even up there. You all know I was an Azimio diehard but just as I respect leadership, I also respect the decisions you made through your votes and that’s why you saw me in State House the other day,” she implored.

Uhuru Kenyatta apologizes for missing Azimio parliamentary group meeting

Uhuru Kenyatta and KANU chairman Gideon Moi apologize for missing Azimio parliamentary group meeting.

The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition Parliamentary Group meeting was held at Stoni Athi in Machakos County on Thursday.

The coalition’s leadership, including Raila Odinga, Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, and a number of governors including Simba Arati, Gideon Mungaro, Ochilo Ayako, James Orengo, and Anyang Nyong’o, were present at the meeting.

However, Uhuru, the chair of the Azimio Council, was absent but promised to support whatever choice the lawmakers made, according to Raila.

“I bring apologies from our chairman Uhuru Kenyatta, he wanted to come but he was unable, but he said he will support whatever resolution we will make today,” Raila told the legislators.

KANU party chairperson Gideon Moi was also not in attendance but sent his apologies.

On the agenda of the Azimio parliamentary meeting, Raila said the coalition was preparing to send its members to the bipartisan parliamentary committee, per the opposition’s agreement on Sunday to call off anti-government protests and address its issues with President William Ruto’s administration.

“We shall send our members to that select committee. The point of reference shall be lowering the cost of Unga and electricity, audit of IEBC servers used before, during, and after the 2022 elections, reviewing the dismissal of the IEBC four, and for the government to consider restructuring IEBC by devolving its structures,” Raila said.

He said they will also recommend legal policies and reforms to improve the electoral process, and a review of the law to ensure party allegiance.

Raila however, reiterated that they will go back to the streets should there be no goodwill from the government’s side.

“Should there be no meaningful engagements we shall mobilize Kenyans again under Article 37,” Raila added, referring to a return to the streets.

“I won’t be involved in case of handshake with Raila”, Gachagua warns Ruto

Gachagua warns Ruto he won’t be involved there should be a handshake with Azimio coalition leader Raila Odinga.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said that if there will be a handshake between opposition chief Raila Odinga and President William Ruto, he will not be involved.

He stated that he did not want to shake Raila’s hand either while speaking in Kiambu County on Thursday during the oil consecration ceremony at AIPCA Church.

“Those people should leave me alone. I am not a hardliner; I am just saying what my bosses want. My people do not want a handshake – or do you? He said the other day that he does not want to shake my hand, do I look like I would accept his greeting? ” Gachagua asked.

DP Gachagua said nothing good comes out of a handshake.

“He had a handshake with our prince who was a good person full of respect but later, you all saw what happened. Even if there is a handshake, I as Rigathi Gachagua will not be there,” he said.

“You might have a handshake and your things change. Can you tell me to have a handshake with him? I can’t and I won’t be there. For me, I am the husband to a pastor.”

He said that Azimio Coalition want half of the government while they had a chance but they failed.

“It does not matter whether they cheer or jeer me. There is no way those who did not plant anything harvest. You know I found them in a queue at State House. Those who had not planted anything were at the forefront and those who planted were at the back,” he said.

“I decided my job will be to push forward those who planted and ask those who planted nothing to go to the back. This is why they are asking to share the government and they claim I am the one being a hardliner.”

Additionally, he stated that the state would nominate certain AIPCA members to government positions as a way of showing their appreciation for their support during the elections.

“I wish to suggest that this church will be the subject of plans. I’ll invite the Bishops and the top brass of this church, and I’ll also take them to President Ruto so we can chat. The AIPCA church has a significant number of shares in this government, as I already stated, the DP remarked.

Kalonzo calls out Kambas for displaying cowardice during Azimio protests

Kalonzo calls on Kambas to stop cowards and fight for their space in Kenyan politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has asked the Kamba community to stop being cowards and be on the frontline in the battle for the presidency in the 2027 general election.

Speaking in Makueni county on Wednesday, April 5, Kalonzo highlighted his dissatisfaction with the Kamba community’s lackluster participation in the recent anti-government protests organized by the Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya alliance.

“We the Kamba community showed the nation too much cowardliness, but am thankful for the few who supported the demonstrations,” Kalonzo said.

To the benefit of the community, Kalonzo urged his tribesmen to press the government for greater services.

In addition, the former vice president advised his supporters to abandon the idea that they should back Raila Odinga, the head of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), as he seeks the presidency in 2027, noting that power is not given but taken.

“These things are never given they are grabbed, you go for it, and if you want to quote the bible, Matthew 12:11 since the days of John the Baptist, the kingdom of God suffers violence and the violent shall take it by force,” Kalonzo who has supported Raila’s presidential bid thrice in the past said.

He challenged the Kamba community to throw their weight behind him like the Luos have shown support for Raila if they want him to be president.

The Wiper leader also urged former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu to also come out and join the opposition in fighting for the interests of the people.

“My sister Charity, I want to see you next time, if I am demonstrating I want to see you there,” Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo further reiterated that the Azimio la Umoja coalition is ready for talks with the Kenya Kwanza administration on the contagious issues raised during the protests.

He however made it clear that the coalition would not hesitate to abandon the talks and return to the streets if they realize that President William Ruto’s side is insincere.

Raila dares Kenya Kwanza over ICC threat

Raila through his ODM party trashes Kenya Kwanza government idea of threatening Azimio leader with ICC.

ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna trashed remarks by National Assembly majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah on involving ICC after Azimio’s fresh demands.

In a tweet, Nairobi Senator claimed ICC can never jail anyone.

“One thing I truly admire about these Kenya Kwanza clowns like Ichung’wa is their audacity. Who are you scaring with ICC? Write all the letters you want,” he tweeted.

“If Ruto got away with all the overwhelming evidence, that court will never jail anyone. Andika barua nitakupea stamp.”

Sifuna’s remarks came after National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah on Wednesday, April 5, threatened to write to the International Criminal Court (ICC) over Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s political agenda.

Ichung’wah was dismissing the proposal by opposition chief Raila Odinga to have talks akin to the National Accord 2008.

“He is threatening that if we don’t agree to the National Accord proposal, he will continue with the mass action. We want to tell Raila that we don’t have any problems with you conducting mass demonstrations. The only caveat is you do it peacefully.

“That is why I have said I will propose an agenda to our Parliamentary Group meeting next week that we write to the ICC to take measures to ensure that Raila Odinga and his sponsors do not slide our country back into anarchy,” he said.

“We are telling Raila Odinga, your system of looting, anarchy to blackmail the country will come to an end, and not next year, not after the next elections, it will come to an end this year,” Kimani Ichung’wah stated.

Since the Pro-Azimio demonstrations began in January, both the government and opposition have at one time threatened to involve ICC in their pull and push.

Ngilu breaks silence after August loss, explains why she’s not participating in protests

Ngilu resurfaces after election loss in the August general elections as she reiterates her support for Raila’s mass protests.

Former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu made a political reappearance on Wednesday, April 5, following a seven-month absence.

Ngilu addressed the protests against the government being led by the Azimio alliance in her first political speech after the general election on August 9, 2022.

The former governor also explained her decision to leave politics while she was present for the funeral of real estate mogul Pius Musembi Kivindu in Sultan Hamud, Makueni County.

“Some leaders are saying that they cannot see Ngilu and it is true you cannot see me.

“But I want to say that those who are asking about my whereabouts, started demonstrating just the other day while I have inhaled teargas since 1992,” she revealed why she had taken a break.

Ngilu revealed that although she would not be taking part in demonstrations, she supported Azimio’s push for reforms in the country.

“I see what you are doing Kalonzo and I want to encourage you to soldier on since that is the right direction,” she endorsed the anti-government position.

Ngilu further accused President William Ruto-led government of hoodwinking Kenyans.

“As Azimio, we had a clear roadmap on what we were going to do should we win the Presidency.

“Others said as soon as they put down the Bible, maize flour price would reduce to Ksh70,” she threw a jibe towards Ruto.

Ngilu added that the bipartisan approach dialogue should be transparent so that Kenyans can know what was being discussed.

Attendee and Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka echoed Ngilu’s views on the necessity of transparency during the discussions.

Oscar Sudi scolds Raila over new demands ‘Heri tu mrudi maandamano nyinyi’

Sudi scolds Azimio leader Raila Odinga over his new demands following a truce with President William Ruto.

Kapseret Member of Parlament (MP) Oscar Sudi has dismissed Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya leader Raila Odinga’s new demands to President William Ruto’s administration to iron out issues raised during the coalition’s mass actions.

Sudi expressed disbelief that Raila wants discussions akin to the 2008 National Accord, which was driven by the late former United Nations Secretary-General Koffi Annan following the contentious 2007 presidential election results, in a statement posted on his official Twitter account.

The outspoken member questioned how the aforementioned concerns were connected to the 2008 National Accord while asserting that Raila was using the problems with IEBC servers and Unga prices to bargain for a discussion analogous to that agreement.

Sudi subsequently stated that the opposition members continue their protests since their demands were ‘unrealistic’.

“I am shocked to hear Raila Odinga desperately seeking talks like the 2008 National Accord using the issues of the price of Unga and opening of @IEBCKenya servers. Do these issues even relate? Heri tu mrudi Maandamano nyinyi,” Sudi wrote.

Sudi’s remarks came hours after Raila and other leaders allied to the Azimio faction held a presser to address their concerns in response to Ruto’s calls for bipartisan talks.

Ruto had proposed a bipartisan parliamentary engagement to address Raila’s concerns on the reconstitution of the IEBC.

But while addressing a presser on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, Raila asserted that the parliamentary process proposed by the president was not an effective way of addressing the grievances aired by the opposition.

He noted that the faction preferred to have a conversation at the national level through a process similar to the 2008 National Accord.

“It is the resolution of this meeting that a purely parliamentary process may not serve the intended ends. Our suggestion is to have a conversation at the national level through a process akin to the 2008 National Accord,” Raila said.

Leaders in President Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party have also dismissed Odinga’s new demands, saying it is time he moved on after the August 2022 elections.
