According to witnesses, the truck allegedly lost control before ramming into the matatu which was full of passengers.
While confirming the incident, Naivasha OCPD Stephen Kirui noted several others had been injured and have since been rushed to the hospital.
Preliminary reports suggest the casualties were heading to a family function when they met their untimely death.
The accident caused a traffic snarl-up along the ever-busy highway despite police efforts to clear the debris from the road.
Following the incident, a rescue operation was launched by a team of police officers with the help of residents who aided in removing passengers trapped in the wreckage.
In the images that have since circulated online, the matatu was completely deformed with its glasses strewn all over the road.
After minutes of rescue operations, the wreckage of the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) was towed to the police station even as investigations into the deadly accident commenced.

The tragedy comes barely a month after five people succumbed while 8 others sustained serious injuries following an accident along the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway.
The accident occurred after a 14-seater matatu lost control and collided with an oncoming lorry that was en route to Nakuru.
Kenya Red Cross Society while confirming the 3 am incident noted that it had dispatched a rescue team.
“A road traffic incident has been reported at Salgaa involving a trailer and a 14-seater matatu. Our first responders are en route to the scene,” the Kenya Red Cross announced.
