Ten people killed with several others injured on Saturday, June 8 after a trailer collided with an oncoming matatu along the Nairobi-Naivasha Highway.

According to witnesses, the truck allegedly lost control before ramming into the matatu which was full of passengers.

While confirming the incident, Naivasha OCPD Stephen Kirui noted several others had been injured and have since been rushed to the hospital.

Preliminary reports suggest the casualties were heading to a family function when they met their untimely death.

The accident caused a traffic snarl-up along the ever-busy highway despite police efforts to clear the debris from the road.

Following the incident, a rescue operation was launched by a team of police officers with the help of residents who aided in removing passengers trapped in the wreckage.

In the images that have since circulated online, the matatu was completely deformed with its glasses strewn all over the road.

After minutes of rescue operations, the wreckage of the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) was towed to the police station even as investigations into the deadly accident commenced.
