There will be only one ODM NDC; Gladys Wanga to Sifuna group

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has announced that there will be only one Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party National Delegates’ Conference (NDC).

While speaking during a press briefing at the party headquarters on Thursday, March 19, 2026, the Homa Bay Governor dismissed calls by the Edwin Sifuna-led Linda Mwananchi faction for a parallel NDC to rival the main faction.

According to Wanga, the only legitimate NDC will be the one that ODM party leader Oburu Odinga will be spearheading, which will take place at Jamhuri Grounds on Friday, March 27, 2027, where various party officials will be elected to different party positions.

Wanga added that anybody is free to hold barazas or roadside rallies, but not in the name of an ODM NDC.

“There will be only one NDC of the ODM; that will happen on March 27 at Jamhuri grounds. People are free to hold barazas political rallies but there shall only be one NDC of ODM party.”

This comes a day after Siaya Governor James Orengo, who is an integral member of the Linda Mwananchi ODM faction steered by Sifuna, announced that they will be holding a parallel NDC different from the one championed by the Oburu faction.

They stated that since their Linda Mwananchi movement is about the people and aims to stand with them—something they believe is the foundation of ODM—it will be dubbed the “People’s National Delegates Convention”, in contrast to the mainstream Oburu-Wanga-led faction’s, which is called “The Special National Delegates Conference”.

The Linda Mwananchi team also threw cold water on the Oburu-led NDC, stating that it is not properly convened. According to them, an NDC can only be called by the party secretary general, who is Sifuna, and since he is in their faction and has not called for any NDC, they deem all undertakings of that day illegal and subject to challenge in court.

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, who is also part of the Linda Mwananchi faction, has added his voice on the upcoming NDC and Winnie Odinga’s recent proposal to be elected as deputy party leader. He claimed there is a sinister motive behind the push, alleging that she is being used to justify the legality of the Oburu-led NDC. He urged Winnie Odinga to tread carefully and not be misused by the rival faction.

Wanga has also dismissed the Linda Mwananchi calls for what they term as a “people’s NDC”, saying it is meant to confuse ODM supporters and create sideshows. She added that one cannot simply gather what she termed ‘villagers’ and call them ‘delegates’, emphasising that only individuals mandated under the ODM constitution can convene an official NDC, not just any party member.
