They asked about my relationship with Uhuru Kenyatta; Alfred Keter reveals after arrest

Former Nandi MP Alfred Keter now says he was questioned about his relationship with former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after he was arrested

Former Nandi MP Alfred Keter now says he was questioned about his relationship with former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after he was arrested.

Speaking on Monday, July 1 outside the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters, Keter also revealed that he was questioned about firearms from Congo.

“The questions I was asked, one was about my relationship with the former President Uhuru Kenyatta and my relationship with the current deputy president and then issues to do with arms from Congo. I think it is a movie but let us allow it to go as per the law but generally don’t intimidate us into silence,” said Keter.

The former MP claimed he was being targeted by the government over his stance on matters affecting Kenyans and the cost of living.

“We know it is about the issues we are raising concerning the Finance Bill, the cost of living and the many promises they made. We didn’t make them to give the promises. The problem with them is that they always lie,” Keter added.

Keter was arrested on Sunday by plain-clothed police officers in Kileleshwa moments after leaving church while in the company of his family.

The former lawmaker was forced out of his car and taken to the Kamukunji Police Station.

In a statement after his arrest, the DCI said Keter was not abducted but rather arrested for conspiracy to traffic firearms and incitement to violence.

“Contrary to the misinformation circulating on social media on alleged abduction of Hon Alfred Keter by unknown men, this is to confirm that Hon Keter was arrested earlier today by NPS Officers for Conspiracy to Traffic Firearms and Incitement to Violence. He was booked at Kamukunji Police Station and later released pending Forensic Analysis of exhibits. Thereafter the file will be forwarded to the ODPP for direction,” the DCI stated.
