Former Machakos MP Victor Munyaka has opened up on chaos that unfolded in Kigumo, Murang’a County on Sunday, July 27.
In a press briefing on Monday, July 28, he alleged that armed individuals forced him and his driver to chant pro-government slogans at gunpoint.
Munyaka described the harrowing encounter where he claims they were forced to shout “tutam” (two terms), a slogan used by those pushing for President William Ruto to serve two terms.
The former lawmaker also claimed that it was during the chaos that his driver sustained an injury suspected to be a gunshot wound.
“They pointed their guns at us and told us to shout ‘tutam’ (two terms) or they would kill us. We had to say ‘tutam’ so that we can be saved; that was done under duress.
“We suspect that the injury that my driver has is a gunshot because they shot six times when we were lying down,” he said.
On Sunday, leaders aligned with Gachagua, were forced to flee for their safety after police officers lobbed teargas at their convoy.
According to media reports, the officers also fired live ammunition to break up a gathering of opposition leaders who had traveled to Kigumo for a church service.

Following the service, the politicians had planned to hold several public rallies across the county.
However, their efforts were thwarted when police set up a blockade on a key highway, preventing further movement.
The chaos left several individuals injured, and some of the vehicles, including Munyaka’s, sustained damage during the incident.
“The police caught up with us, my driver and I, and they damaged all the windows and side mirrors. The damages cost Ksh2 million,” the former MP said during the press briefing.
In the wake of the chaos, Gachagua demanded the arrest and prosecution of all police officers and individuals involved.
He alsk warned police officers and their bosses that justice would eventually catch up with them.
“I call for immediate arrest and arraignment of these criminals and police officers. I want to remind the police officers being misused by William Ruto and, in extension, the inspector general of police Mr. Douglas Kanja, justice will be served no matter how long it takes,” he said.
