Former KTN journalist and news anchor, Michael Oyier dies while receiving treatment at the Nairobi hospital.

Former Kenya Television Network (KTN) news anchor Michael Oyier on Friday succumbed to illness while receiving treatment at the Nairobi hospital.

According to a family friend, Oyier had collapsed in his Lavington house in Nairobi on Wednesday, April 17.

This was after he complained of severe headache.

However, there was no clear detail of the exact illness the deceased was suffering from before his sudden demise.

In 2002, Michael Oyier joined Standard Group Media as a news anchor at KTN where he worked for nine years until 2012 when he quit.

While at Standard Group, he also joined the editorial department where he wrote several pieces while similarly working as a new anchor.

With over 20 years of experience as a journalist, Oyier was a skilled public speaker, moderator, master of ceremony, facilitator, voice-over artist, singer, and actor.

Oyier was also a leadership coach with experience spanning half a decade helping leaders and leadership teams, both locally and internationally.

 Prior to his death, Oyier worked as a psychologist and life coach.

Oyier holds a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Management. 

He also holds a certificate in Manager Programme from the Strathmore Business School and a certificate in Executive Leadership coaching from the Coach Development Institute Africa.

The former journalist worked closely with medical institutions such as Mathare Mental Hospital and Kenyatta National Hospital, and private organizations as he advanced to help individuals, couples, families, groups, and teams in organizations overcome various challenges.

Fellow journalists, Maina Kageni and Carol Radull who mourned him termed him as a gentle soul.

Maina’s eulogy read, “We have lost a legend. Thank you for everything Michael Oyier… one of the very best newscasters I have ever known…. a true example of commitment, discipline, and encouragement!!!! Sincere condolences to the entire media fraternity and the family (Peter, Paul, Olga) and friends. Rest In Peace Michael Oyier……”

Carol for her part wrote, “Worst news ever. Former KTN and Kiss100 News presenter Michael Oyier died while receiving treatment.”
