Treasury ready to release CDF allocation; Sh2 billion every week despite Supreme Court ruling

Treasury ready to release CDF allocation despite the Supreme Court ruling that declared the NG-CDF unconstitutional.

Subject to the Attorney General’s permission, the Treasury would transfer Sh2 billion every week to the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).

Kinani Ichung’wah, the leader of the majority, stated that the Treasury is awaiting a legal opinion from the Attorney General regarding the ramifications of the Supreme Court decision that found the NG-CDF to be unconstitutional.

If the legal opinion clears the payments, the Treasury told MPs that it is prepared to deliver Sh2 billion once a week beginning on November 21.

Njuguna Ndung’u, the cabinet secretary, claimed that the Treasury was unable to distribute the Sh44.3 billion allocated to the NG-CDF because of difficulties with the transition to the new administration, delayed payments from the IMF, enormous unpaid bills, fuel subsidies, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

National Assembly Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah issued a brief to MPs who last week threatened to paralyze House business if the Treasury fails to release the NG-CDF allocation.

The lawmakers had threatened to block all government business including approval of President William Ruto’s nominees for Principal Secretary positions.
