TSC announces the redeployment of teachers to junior secondary as the commission invites applications for those interested.

According to the Teachers Service Commission, primary school teachers would be given preference for the openings needed to fill the teacher shortage during the operationalization of junior secondary schools.

TSC announced an opportunity for interested parties to submit proposals for deployment in the JSS in a statement issued on Saturday, January 28.

According to the announcement, the window will be open through February 6 in 2023.

Additionally, the teachers’ employer made it clear that only those who are currently employed in public primary schools on permanent and pensionable terms of service (P&P) are urged to apply.

Candidates must have at least a C+ (Plus) mean grade on their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate, or a score on an exam that is comparable, to be eligible.

In addition, TSC stated that interested persons should have at least a C+ (Plus) in the two teaching subjects at Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent.

Candidates seeking to be deployed in the new JSS must also have at least 8 units in each of the two teaching subjects and should be primary school teachers at the time of application.

To apply, candidates will use the commission’s website via the link;

Junior secondary schools are expected to commence activities on Monday, January 30, according to a circular from the Ministry of Education.

In preparations for the landmark transition of grade six graduates, the government embarked on a process of upscaling staffing through the popularized 30,000 vacancies announced in December 2022.

While releasing the 2022 KCSE results, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu announced that the process of executing the transition was in good progress after the approval of additional guidelines regarding the management of JSS.

The CS also announced plans by the government to allocate more funds towards the process of ironing out challenges that threatened to cripple the Competency-Based-Curriculum implementation in public schools.
