TVET students to wear uniforms in a new plan

TVET students to wear uniforms to improve education standards in higher learning institutions across the country.
The Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Principal Secretary Esther Muoria announced plans to require uniforms for new and existing TVET students.
Muoria revealed that discussions with the pertinent parties were taking place to decide on a color and design for each student.
The PS claims that the move will raise academic standards throughout all higher education institutions in the country.
“Once the standardized uniforms are introduced, it shall be worn on specific days of the week,” she noted while speaking at Baringo Technical College during the official commissioning of a tuition and hospitality restaurant block.
“We shall decide on the colours so that we can work as one because the graduates that are coming out of these institutions are one,” the TVET PS emphasized.
Once approved, the students will join another group of learners that wear uniforms as they pursue higher education.

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) is popular for its students wearing blue uniforms.
Baringo governor, Benjamin Cheboi, lauded the government’s move to establish TVETs in every county.
“Most of the marketable jobs require technical skills and acknowledge and thus there is a need for the sector to be supported so that they can produce very competitive people,” he emphasized.
In the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary School Education (KCSE), over 700,000 candidates failed to secure the minimum university entry mark of C+ (plus).
As he announced the results, Education Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu, assured that all the candidates will join higher institutions of learning, including TVETs.
“I direct the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) to move with speed and establish the number of places available in our universities, colleges, and TVET institutions to enable the immediate commencement of the placement exercise,” Machogu stated.
