Two men were found murdered, and a third seriously injured, in a suspected violent attack along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway near the Petro City Petrol Station in Athi River, Machakos County

Two men were found murdered, and a third seriously injured, in a suspected violent attack along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway near the Petro City Petrol Station in Athi River, Machakos County.

The victims were identified as Roberts Irungu Makeri, 61, and an unidentified man, while 64-year-old Samwel Njoroge sustained severe injuries in the Saturday incident.

The matter was reported to the Athi River police station as a murder incident report on OB NO: 20/22/02/2025 at 8.10am.

“It was reported by a local administrator that he received a phone call from a member of the public at 04.15 hours informing him that there were some three men lying down with deep cuts all over their bodies along Mombasa road near Petro City Petrol station,” a police report seen by the Star read in part.

Machakos County police commander Patrick Lobolia confirmed the deaths, stating that they reportedly occurred after two rival groups clashed over unknown reasons early morning.

“The duty officer, DCI, Athi River team, and Scenes of Crime personnel visited and processed the scene. It was established that there were three male adults with deep cuts all over their bodies,” the report read.

Police said one of the men was found dead at the scene and had no identification documents, while the second one was conscious and identified himself as Samwel Njoroge, aged 64 years.

“The third one was unconscious but had an ID card with the name Robert Irungu Makeri aged 61 years. The injured were rushed to Shalom Community hospital where Robert Irungu Makeri was pronounced dead on arrival,” police stated in the report.

Both bodies were moved to the same facility’s mortuary awaiting autopsy. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations detectives attached to the Athi River police station have launched investigations into the incident. The case is pending under investigations.
