Two-month-old baby dies after falling into boiling porridge as the mother fought with other women over Chamaa money in Homa Bay.
According to reports, the women were fighting over Ksh.1700 Chamaa (Self-help group) money.
The incident happened in the Ndhiwa constituency of Homa Bay County at Koduol ‘B’ village, South East sub-location.
The baby identified as Sheldon Churchill fell into the porridge that was at the highest boiling point on a Jiko in his mother’s house when members of the Chamaa arrived in their house to demand debt payment.
The 19-year-old mother of the kid, Sharon Auma, claims that roughly 20 of her Chamaa members broke into her home to demand payment for a debt she owed them.
However, she did not have the money to pay them leading to a violent confrontation.

She stated that she had only paid back Ksh. 800 of the Ksh. 2500 loan that she had taken out from the Chamaa.
The confrontation worsened when the Chamaa members decided to confiscate Auma’s 16 Gorogoros of dry maize to settle the debt.
It was during that confrontation that Auma claims two women pushed her, making the baby she was carrying to fall in the boiling porridge.
She was trying to deny the group members entry into her bedroom, where the dry maize was kept.
The area Assistant Benson Adongo on Saturday confirmed that the boy died as he was being taken to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital for medication.
The body was moved to the Manyatta Kobodo mortuary.
