Two people have lost their lives after a light aircraft they were travelling in crashed at Kedong Ranch in Naivasha

Two people have lost their lives after a light aircraft they were travelling in crashed at Kedong Ranch in Naivasha. 

In a statement on Friday, January 31, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) disclosed that the aircraft, a Cessna 185 (5Y-BVL), crashed at the ranch at around 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.

According to KCAA, the aircraft had departed Wilson Airport and was en route to Mbaruk, Nakuru County, before the unfortunate incident.

“Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) regrets to confirm that an aircraft accident occurred late yesterday at Kedong Ranch, Naivasha, involving a Cessna 185 aircraft, registration 5Y-BVL.

Preliminary reports indicate that the accident occurred at approximately 17:14. There were two persons on board (POB: 02), both of whom have unfortunately lost their lives. The flight had departed from Wilson Airport and was en route to Mbaruk,” KCAA stated.

The authority noted that the incident was reported by a member of the public to the Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC).

KCAA condoled with the families of the deceased and disclosed that it was coordinating with relevant authorities to facilitate response efforts and gather more details.

The authority did not disclose the cause of the incident at the time of publishing.

“KCAA is actively coordinating with relevant authorities, including the Air Accident Investigation Department (AAID), emergency responders, and local security personnel, to gather further details and facilitate response efforts,” KCAA remarked.
