Two relatives arrested over beating of 19-year-old to death
Two relatives have been arrested in Turbo, Uasin Gishu County, in connection with the fatal beating of a 19-year-old man in what police describe as a violent act of punishment that turned deadly.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Turbo said the suspects, an uncle and aunt of the deceased, were taken into custody following investigations into the death of Kevin Kipkorir Meli, which occurred on February 2, 2026, in Kiplombe Location, Turbo Sub-County.
Police reports indicate that officers from Baharini Police Station acted on a distress call reporting a fatal assault in Kaplelach village. When they arrived at the scene, they discovered the body of a young man lying under an avocado tree within his uncle’s compound.
“On that grim day, officers at Baharini Police Station received a distress call about a person who had been brutally beaten to death at Kaplelach village,” the police recounted.
Crime Scene Investigation officers documented the scene, noting multiple injuries on the victim’s head, back, legs, and hands.
A blood clot was also observed in the nose, suggesting severe physical assault.
The body was later transported to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) mortuary for preservation and post-mortem examination.

According to investigations, the incident was triggered by allegations that the teenager had stolen and sold dry maize from his uncle’s home. Police say the two suspects allegedly decided to discipline the young man over the matter.
“Preliminary investigations revealed a shocking motive: Kevin was suspected of stealing and selling dry maize from his uncle’s home,” the police stated.
Investigations further established that the suspects tied the victim to an avocado tree using a rope before beating him repeatedly with sticks. The assault reportedly continued until the victim lost consciousness and later died from the injuries sustained.
Detectives recovered the Manila rope believed to have been used to restrain the deceased, as well as broken sticks suspected to have been used during the assault. These items were secured as exhibits for the case.
The suspects are currently being held in police custody as detectives finalise investigations. Police said the two are expected to be arraigned in court.
