Two university students sadly drowned in Narok County on Wednesday, April 24, after falling over a bridge.

According to reports, the children decided to go on an expedition not far from school.

While crossing a narrow bridge, they slipped and were swept away by the overflowing river’s rapid currents.

Their university colleagues reported that the two victims were second-year students enrolled in the institution’s courses.

Narok police have stated that efforts to recover the bodies are still ongoing. The county commissioner, Kapkech Lotiatia, and the county police commander, Riko Ngare, led the activities.

Residents warn against trekking in the area during the rainy season, citing potential hazards.

“It is so painful, we think we have ended the semester successfully, but unfortunately two second-year comrades, a man and a lady have lost their souls when they try to cross the bridge full of water but suddenly both of them drowned inside the water, Ewaso Nyiro river not far from the university,” stated one of the colleagues.

Students at the university have alleged that this is not the first time a student has drowned in the river. In October 2022, a student drowned in the river while on a picnic with two pals.

The pupil is alleged to have attempted to swim in the river after being swept away.

Following the event, the university’s Dean of Students admitted that the river claimed the lives of several varsity students who went for picnics and drowned in shallow water.
