Kenya to receive more than 80 tonnes of relief aid from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a donation for the flood victims.
In a statement issued by the government spokesperson, Isaac Mwaura on Wednesday, May 2, he revealed that the Government of the United Arab Emirates had already dispatched two planes to ferry the relief aid.
“In this regard, the Government of the United Arab Emirates has dispatched two aircraft loaded with 80 tonnes of essential relief supplies to support the government’s efforts,” read the statement in part.
Following the donation, the government conveyed its appreciation for the donation while appealing to other countries to assist the country in alleviating the flooding situation
“The Government of the Republic of Kenya conveys its sincere appreciation and calls upon other friends of Kenya to stand with us during this flooding emergency,” read the statement.
In the efforts to support those affected by the floods, the government through the National Multi-Agency Emergency Response Committee on floods has been distributing relief foods to 196, 296 families affected.
However, the government revealed that 9 more people lost their lives overnight on Tuesday following flooding leading the rise in the death toll to 188 persons nationally.

“It is with sorrow that we report the unfortunate loss of 9 precious lives.4 adults and 5 children, in the last 24 hours. (1 adult in Makueni County, 1 child in Nakuru County, 1 adult in Nandi County, 1 child in Bomet County. 1 child and 1 adult in Narok County, 2 children in Uasin Gishu County and 1 adult in Homa Bay County),” the government reported.
Moreover, 1,759 households were displaced in the flooding in the last 24 hours raising the number of displaced households to 33,100.
Additionally, the spokesperson confirmed that the death toll of Kenyans who had passed away in the Mai Mahiu tragedy had risen to 50 with 73 more injured.
The government has also stepped up a multi-agency Search and Rescue/Retrieval (SAR) exercise for heavily affected families in Nakuru, Nairobi, Kirinyaga, Homa Bay, and Tana River counties.
