United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has kicked out Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro of the powerful Budget & Appropriations Committee.

Nyoro was transferred to the Diaspora Affairs and Migrant Workers Committee as part of a series of changes announced by the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula on Tuesday.

The changes were part of a motion tabled by the National Assembly Departmental Committees on Selection, which oversees House committee placements.

“Further to the resolution of the House of Wednesday, March 5, 2025, and Thursday, March 6, 2025, appointing members to various committees and pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order 175, this House further approves the appointment of the following members to the respective committees as specified hereunder,” the motion read.

In the new lineup, Nyoro replaces Sankaire Leah Sopiato in the Diaspora Affairs and Migrant Workers Committee.

Meanwhile, the powerful Budget and Appropriations Committee will be taken over by Mathioya Member of Parliament Edwin Gishuk.

While Wetang’ula did not reveal the reasons behind the purge, the timing of the changes is interesting since they came at a time when Nyoro has been vocal against the Kenya Kwanza government.

Among the more explosive allegations by the Kiharu lawmaker was one involving the recent spike in fuel prices, where he alleged that the government used misleading narratives to justify the rise.

He also took aim at the government’s borrowing model, alleging that the Ksh44.8 billion Talanta Infrastructure Bond issued through the Nairobi Securities Exchange to fund the Talanta Sports Complex ahead of the 2027 AFCON Cup was a trap to keep the country in debt for decades.

In other changes to other departmental committees, the Committee on Powers and Privileges saw Jane Njeri replace Bwire John Okano. Additionally, Ahmed Shakeel Shabir will take over from Oyo James Onyango.

The Public Petitions Committee saw two new appointments. Karemba Eric Muchangi has been selected to replace Kagesi Kibai Ernest Ogesi, while Ntwiga Patrick Munene will take over from Mbai Nimrod Mbithuka.

In the Public Accounts Committee, Mary Emase replaced  Public Service CS Ruku Geoffrey Ruku.
