United Democratic Alliance (UDA) MCA Nicholas Lorot of Burat Ward is fighting for his life after being accosted and shot by an armed assailant near Trojan Petrol Station in Isiolo Town on Wednesday.
According to reports, the MCA had just left a restaurant after a meeting with a senior leader from the Isiolo County Assembly when an armed assailant approached his vehicle and opened fire on him.
During the incident, the MCA lost his thumb while attempting to deflect the gunshot with his right hand and sustained two additional gunshot wounds in the same arm.
He was, however, rescued and taken to a hospital in Meru, where he is currently admitted in stable condition.
Isiolo County Assembly confirmed the incident and condemned those behind the attack, revealing that they were working closely with security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The County Assembly of Isiolo vehemently condemns the brazen shooting of Hon. Nicholas Lorot, Member of the County Assembly for Burat Ward. The incident occurred near the Northern Galaxy Hotel in Isiolo Town. He was rushed to a medical facility following the attack,” a statement from the County Assembly confirmed.
“As a legislative body, we condemn this cowardly act of violence and reaffirm our unwavering commitment to peace, safety, and justice for all.
We are working closely with security agencies and pledge our full support to ensure those responsible are swiftly brought to justice.”

Taking to the floor of the Senate, Isiolo Senator Adan Fatuma Dullo condemned the incident, asserting that the security of leaders was not guaranteed.
“Nicholas Lorot was shot last evening with four bullets. Fortunately, we ensured that the situation was contained. This issue needs to be looked into because it happened in the middle of Isiolo CBD, in full view of security agencies,” Dullo stated.
Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo also condemned the incident while urging security agencies to expedite investigations to establish those behind the shooting.
”I strongly condemn this heinous act and have directed security agencies to expedite investigations and ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice,” Guyo stated.
”I wish Hon. Lorot a speedy recovery as he continues to receive treatment. My thoughts and prayers are with him, his family, and the people of Burat Ward during this difficult time.”
Lorot serves as the chairperson of the Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Special Programs Committee in the Isiolo County Assembly.
