Two Kenyan politicians lost their lives after the car they were travelling in was involved in an accident in Uganda.

According to reports, the two were among four people who perished in an accident along the Moroto- Napak road at Tapaach.

The four victims are Philemon Lotudo, Elijah Lopuke, Jackson Kariwoi, and Ben Ikong.

Images of the accident depict a harrowing scene, as the black SUV which the politicians were travelling in was completely mangled.

Further reports indicate that Kariwoi and Ikong died on the spot while Lotudo succumbed to his injuries on his way to the hospital. The other victim passed away while receiving treatment.

Notably, one of the deceased vied for the Kapenguria MP seat in the 2022 elections while the other took a stab at the MCA position.

Lopuke was particularly on the ascendancy as far as his political ambitions are concerned, as he won the UDA chairmanship in Alale Ward in West Pokot as recently as in May 2024.

West Pokot County Commissioner Khaliff Abdullahi confirmed the incident, adding that investigations were underway to determine the cause of the accident.

Another key detail is the fact that the two politicians were travelling in a vehicle attached to the West Pokot County government at the time of the accident.

It took the collaboration of Kenya and Ugandan authorities to coordinate the repatriation of the bodies of the deceased, who have since been taken to Cherangany Mortuary in Kitale.

The deceased, it has been established, were part of a delegation accompanying Pokot South MP David Pkosing on a cross-border tour of Kenya and Uganda.

Sook Ward MCA Martin Komongiro narrowly escaped the accident with his life, and was rushed to Eldoret for specialized treatment.
