UDA slams Kalonzo for skipping Mashujaa Day Celebrations in Kitui

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has criticized Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka for missing the Mashujaa Day celebrations held in Kitui
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has criticized Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka for missing the Mashujaa Day celebrations held in Kitui County on Monday, October 20.
In a short statement on his social media, Cherargei accused the former Vice President of being unpatriotic and cowardly for failing to attend the national event in his political backyard.
“Kalonzo is a coward of the century; by skipping the Mashujaa Day national celebrations that was unpatriotic to the country yet all Ukambani are attending in mammoth crowds,” Cherargei stated.
The Nandi Senator claimed that Kalonzo had traveled to the United Kingdom but returned to Kenya for the funeral of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, only to skip the national celebrations in his own region.
“Kalonzo had run away to the United Kingdom (UK) to hide, but returned because of Jakom’s funeral. He must have confused the event because this is a national celebration, not a political rally,” Cherargei added.
The senator questioned Kalonzo’s nationalist credentials, arguing that a true patriot would not miss a national holiday to honor Kenya’s heroes.
“He pretends to be a nationalist and patriotic, but he cannot honour a national holiday to celebrate our national heroes,” Cherargei remarked.
Despite Kalonzo’s absence, the Mashujaa Day celebrations at Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui County drew massive crowds.

The 10,000-capacity venue was full by 8:30 AM, and the gates opened as early as 4 AM to accommodate the enthusiastic residents.
Cherargei praised the people of Kitui and the broader Ukambani region for their warm reception of President William Ruto and other dignitaries at the event.
“Thank you Kitui residents and Ukambani nation for warm and heroic reception to President Ruto and guests and hosting this national event to celebrate our national heroes,” he said.
The celebrations, presided over by President Ruto with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye as the chief guest, honored 184 individuals for their contributions to the nation.
Among those recognized were Citizen TV news anchor Mwanahamisi Hamadi for her empowering program Mwanamke Bomba, music producer Clemo, musician Jua Cali, literary icon Professor Ngugi wa Thiong’o, and several Harambee Stars players.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and other senior government officials were also in attendance.
