Former President Uhuru Kenyatta joins Azimio leaders led by Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka for an interdenominational prayer service.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has joined other Kenyans for the interdenominational prayer service for victims of police brutality at the SKM center in Karen. 

Uhuru was joined by other Azimio leaders Raila Odinga, and Kalonzo Musyoka among others to mourn victims of police brutality during protests.

The retired President drove himself to the venue on Friday, a few minutes before 11 am 

The prayer service by the opposition doubles up as a mass to mourn supporters who lost their lives in the anti-government protests.

This is the first time he is publicly attending a function led by the Azimio team.

The last time he attended a public function was during the Jubilee National Delegates Convention (NDC) at the Ngong Racecourse.

Azimio had announced it will hold interdenominational prayers in Nairobi and other parts of the country on Friday, July 28.

The coalition, through a statement read out by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, said the country will be praying for the government to reduce the high taxes and lower the cost of living.

“We will pray for the pharaohs in government to listen to the cries of our people about the high taxes and the rising cost of living. 

“We will pray for our police to know that the people they brutalize, maim, and kill are, in the end, their brothers, sisters, and fellow citizens,” said Kalonzo.

The coalition will also officially launch a fund to aid the families of the victims as well announce the next steps of the anti-tax protest.
