Kung’u Muigai, Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cousin says Rigathi Gachagua is the new Mt Kenya Kingpin.
Former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s cousin Kung’u Muigai has proclaimed Rigathi Gachagua as the new king of Mount Kenya.
After Uhuru’s retirement, Rigathi became the new ruler of the enormous Mt. Kenya territory, according to Kung’u.
Speaking to NTV, Kung’u said that since Rigathi is the deputy president, the people of Mount Kenya should obey him as their paramount leader.
“Uhuru Kenyatta is my kin but he is now retired. We are actually with him Ichaweri. Is it possible that anyone who follows him will now come to Ichaweri? We have Rigathi Gachagua here in Mt Kenya. He is the deputy president and our leader whether anyone likes it or not and we will follow his lead”
“Uhuru Kenyatta is retired and he is at home. He is now an elder of the villager,” he said.

Kung’u comments come after a section of Jubilee leaders insisted that the retired president was still the Mt Kenya kingpin.
The Jubilee leaders, led by embattled secretary-general Jeremiah Kioni maintained that Uhuru remains the supreme leader of the vote-rich Mt Kenya region despite his exit from active politics.
Politicians claimed that the kingpin position wouldn’t become vacant until the former head of state proclaimed his disinterest.
The leaders reiterated that Uhuru is their party’s leader and Jeremiah Kioni is its secretary-general while criticizing their peers who had defected to Kenya Kwanza.
“Recently, we saw some leaders say that Rigathi Gachagua is the Mt Kenya kingpin. The kingpin remains Uhuru Kenyatta. We are standing by him until he says he is tired of holding the seat,” the leader said flanked by other Jubilee members said.
