Uhuru’s Jubilee party changes tune over Raila’s nationwide demonstrations set to start on Wednesday.

Jubilee Party of former President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced that it will join the planned countrywide rallies by Azmio One Kenya Coalition Party leader Raila Odinga if asked to.

Jeremiah Kioni, the party’s secretary general, stated on Monday, December 5, that party members will participate in the public rallies beginning on Wednesday, December 7, if necessary.

Kioni claims that the former ruling party and the other members of the Azimio alliance are expecting an instruction from Odinga regarding the specifics of the meeting.

“If it is a rally that we will need to attend as members of the opposition then we will attend. I am sure we will get communication from Raila Odinga,” Kioni indicated during an interview with Spice FM

Kioni added that he will contact Odinga to find out the specifics of the rally’s timing and the coalition’s future strategy.

The former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s party has changed its strategy, after having said on Saturday, December 3, that it will not take part in Odinga’s protests.

The Jubilee SG made it clear in a statement that the former ruling party will not take part in Odinga’s rallies, which were set to begin at Nairobi’s Kamukunji Grounds.

However, Kioni applauded Raila’s plans to organize opposition to Ruto’s administration, saying that protests are a crucial tool the opposition has at its disposal that the leader of the opposition is successfully utilizing.

“Protesting is a tool that is available to the opposition and they should use it when they think it is appropriate. It is also provided for in the constitution,” he indicated.

Odinga rallied his followers for a gathering on Wednesday, December 7 to discuss how to hold the Kenya Kwanza government accountable.

He maintained, Azimio will hold their first rally at Kamukunji grounds in Nairobi before proceeding to Mombasa, then Nakuru and Kakamega counties.
