United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced Sh82 million (£500,000) funding to Kenya to support infrastructure projects.
In a statement on Friday, June 14, Sunak said the Sh82 million will be used to support the planning and implementation of green infrastructure initiatives between the UK, the Government of Kenya, and the wider G7.
The UK Prime Minister noted that the partnership between the UK and Kenya will lead to closer cooperation on strategic infrastructure and investment.
“The funding also includes £500,000 for an initiative to support planning, prioritisation and implementation of green infrastructure initiatives between the UK, the Government of Kenya and the wider G7.
“Focusing on transport projects selected from the Africa Green Industrialisation Initiative (AGII), this innovative partnership will lead to closer cooperation with the Kenyan Government on strategic infrastructure and investment and is the first partnership between the G7’s Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment and AGII,” read the statement in part.

At the same time, Sunak said that the UK government is committed to driving a more effective international system that improves lives for people across the world.
He pointed out that the green transition and the development of artificial intelligence (AI) are key components of creating the international system.
“The green transition and the development of AI are key components of this, and the funding announced today will help ensure that these seismic changes happen in a way that works for all,” Sunak added.
On May 6, the UK government donated Sh 140 million to help approximately 6900 Kenyan households affected by floods.
Before that the UK Government had announced Sh1.1 billion (£6.6 million) funding to kick-start the development of fifty green investment projects across Kenya.
