United Kingdom (UK) issues travel advisory against Kenya due to flooding being experienced in the country

In a statement on Wednesday, May 1, the UK government warned its citizens of the dangers associated with visiting Kenya at the moment and urged those already in the country to exercise caution.

“Avoid walking, swimming, or driving through floodwater, plan your journeys carefully, and make sure to follow local guidance,” the advisory read in part.

“Consider contacting your accommodation provider before you travel to check that access is possible.”

Apart from flooding, British Nationals were updated on the risks of crime, kidnapping, and terrorist attacks.

The UK government categorized Eastleigh, CBD, Mathare, and Kibera as areas within Nairobi where there were high crime rates targeting foreigners including British nationals.

“In Mombasa, the risk is higher in the Old Town and on and around the Likoni Ferry (which links Mombasa to the southern resorts),” the advisory stated further.

Other areas include; Tana River County and the Coast between the Tana River and Galana River.

For Lamu, the travel advisory was against all but essential travel in the County excluding Lamu Island and Manda Island.

The travel advisory was issued a few hours after reports emerged that an unknown number of foreigners had been trapped by floods in a Kenyan game reserve.
