University graduate who went missing in Kasarani found dead at City mortuary

The family of 23-year-old university graduate Shawn Mark Mwangi, who went missing in Kasarani estate, is demanding answers after his body was found at Nairobi City Mortuary under unclear circumstances.

Shawn is said to have gone missing on December 7, only for his body to be discovered with severe injuries, sending shockwaves through the family.

The deceased’s family claims they have received little to no assistance from the police.

The tragic incident has left the mother of Shawn Mark Mwangi devastated, inconsolable and engulfed in grief as she reflects on the hardships she endured to raise her child, who has now been lost.

Shawn was reported missing in Kasarani estate. His decomposing body was later discovered at Nairobi City Mortuary under suspicious and unexplained circumstances.

When the family discovered their kin’s body at the morgue, it bore severe injuries, indicative of a brutal murder. Shawn had deep lacerations to the head and signs of a broken back, a harrowing sight for his mother.

At the morgue, the family was informed that the body had been brought in by police from Sunton Police Station and registered as an unknown person. The body had been recovered from a river in Kasarani.

“Nilimuona amelalishwa kwa hizo vitanda za City Mortuary…nikawaambia huyu ni mtoto wangu. His face was swollen, blood oozing from his ears and mouth; it was a horrible scene,” she lamented.

“He had an injury on the right arm, he had cuts on the forehead and the blood had flown towards the neck as if he also had a cut on the neck,” the mother added.

What remains mysterious is how Shawn’s body was found wearing different clothing from what he had on when he went missing. This has raised questions about whether his killers changed his clothes to conceal his identity.

With these unanswered questions and gaps in the investigation, the family claims police at Kasarani Police Station have offered little to no assistance.

“The t-shirt he had on at the mortuary haikua yake…ata sasa tunashangaa kama alibadilishwa but the officers say they have no information,” she explained.

An autopsy confirmed that Shawn’s death was caused by blunt force trauma and severe lacerations to the head. The family’s search for justice continues.
