A diabetic woman loses unborn baby after being left unattended at Kiambu Referral Hospital for about 11 hours.

A video of a woman confronting medical practitioners at the Kiambu County Referral Hospital on Wednesday, July 5, went viral after a pregnant woman went unattended to for hours.

The woman in the video stated that even though the patient came at the hospital at 5 am, care didn’t begin until 4 pm.

She lost her baby as a result of the neglect, but she continued to go uncared for while the medical officials were allegedly carrying out their duties unbothered.

The woman further divulged that the victim suffered from diabetes which made it necessary for her to be attended to promptly.

“As a mother, I feel her pain. She was here from 5 am but she is receiving treatment at 4 pm. The baby had already died and she is also diabetic. Her feet are swollen,” the lady complained.

Following the heated confrontation, the hospital security guards rushed to the scene and attempted to calm the lady down.

“Do they want me to undress or go scream outside so they can attend to us? How much money do you want? We have been here since morning and there have been free beds,” the lady lamented.

She further appealed to the doctors seated in one room to save the lady and rid her of the pain noting, “Can’t they just save one person? Please save her life, she can have another child later.”

At the hospital, another woman complained that she lost her child in a similar manner.

The incident angered Kenyans who called out the county government for underfunding public hospitals and failing to hire more doctors.

Others took out their anger on the doctors at the hospital for watching the lady suffer without offering a solution.

“A nine months journey. Just to lose the baby due to negligence. This is so painful. May God comfort her,” one sympathised.

The victim told the press that she went to the hospital due to pregnancy complications but was neglected for hours. The fetus was later removed.

“We have initiated an investigation and taken statements to understand what happened here. If we find anyone liable for mismanagement and professional negligence, we are going to take stern action against the culprit. We do not want anything like this to happen,” stated an official from the hospital.
