US launches Ksh 1.3M global award targeting Kenyans to implement projects which contribute to positive development.

The US Embassy in Nairobi announced the launch of a global prize on Wednesday, June 14, with Kenyans who contribute to positive growth in their field as the target audience.

The US Embassy stated in a statement that the prize winners will get Ksh1.3 million (USD 10,000) to carry out projects in Kenya.

The prize will be called as the Alumni Impact prize and is intended for Humphrey alumni, according to President Joe Biden’s administration.

The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program, an international exchange program supported by the US government that offers professionals the chance to pursue graduate-level studies at American colleges, is primarily targeted by the program.

“These grants allow Humphrey alumni to pursue projects that apply knowledge and skills acquired during their Fellowship year to address local, national, and global issues or challenges within their home country or region and effect change across their fields of expertise and organizations,” the statement read in part.

Among the areas that Kenyans would be required to address include climate change, environmental issues, and food security.

Other areas are misinformation, human rights violations, and substance misuse.

Requirements for applicants

Humphrey alumni based in Kenya have to meet various requirements set by the US government before qualifying for the grant including residing in Kenya during the project implementation phase.

The proposed project must be implemented starting in October 2023 and concluding by October 2024.

Required documents

To be considered, Kenyans must complete the Google form application provided by the Humphrey Fellowship.

They must also include project objectives and activities lists using the provided template. Applicants must acquire commitment letters from partnering organizations and institutions.

A detailed budget would also be required before consideration.

The US Embassy in Nairobi implored Kenyans who are Humphrey alumni by submitting the required documents to the Humphrey Fellowship website.
