US athlete, Michael Jordan put his Basketball Jersey on auction for Ksh83 million to help Kenyan children.
According to a statement dated Thursday, June 1, the basketball legend Michael Jordan’s jersey was placed up for auction in Los Angeles, California, to aid women and children facing various illnesses in Nairobi, Kenya.
The sweaty jersey, Jordan wore at a practice session during the 1992 Olympic Games is valued at between Ksh55 million ($400,000) and Ksh83 million ($600,000).
All the proceeds collected from the auction will be channelled towards helping women and children in Nairobi.
The US athlete personally signed the special basketball jersey, that formed part of Jordan’s sports memorabilia and collectables.
According to Julien’s Gallery Director, Kody Frederick, the 31-year-old sweaty jersey would attract wealthy buyers, with the winner expected to give Ksh83 million to walk home with it.
“All of that money will go to a children and women wellness initiative in Nairobi, Kenya,” the director stated.
It will be sold in a three-day auction from Friday, June 23, to Sunday, June 25.
Other auction lots include a grass-stained soccer jersey worn by Brazil soccer legend Pele in 1971 and items from basketball star Kobe Bryant, boxer Floyd Mayweather, soccer star Diego Maradona, baseball legend Babe Ruth and tennis star Rafael Nadal.
Jordan was first drafted into the National Basketball Association, a professional basketball league in North America, in 1984.

His contribution helped the Bulls clinch their first NBA championship in 1991, leading them to three more championships from 1992 to 1993.
Jordan’s biggest attributes on the court included athleticism and the ability to guide his team even when trailing.
After winning three consecutive championships, he went to play baseball but never made it to the major leagues. That compelled him to return to his basketball career.
In 1995, he returned to the Bulls and led them to three more NBA championships in 1996, 1997, and 1998. In 2002, Jordan retired after a short stint with the Wizards.
He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2009 and 2015, respectively.
Jordan is considered the greatest basketball of all time, whose career was been featured in movies and documentaries inspiring prodigies globally.
