US donates to Kenya top range vehicles customized for war against drug trafficking

US government donates to DCI (Directorate of Criminal Investigations) four vehicles to boost war against drug trafficking.

The vehicles were handed over to Kenya by Joseph Kellams, a top official from the US embassy, representing the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Country Attaché.

During the handover ceremony attended by the Director of Criminal Investigations Deputy Director Ireri Kamwende, the US official exuded confidence that the vehicles will complement DCI’s mobility efforts in fighting the crime that has previously been cited as a threat to national security.

Kamwende was representing DCI boss Amin Mohamed who was out on official duty.

The American official, according to the release, hailed the ongoing cooperation between the United States and DCI as both countries seek to cooperate in battling transnational organized crime.

Senior Homeland Security officials were also present at the event on Wednesday, highlighted the importance the US government attached to the get-together and cooperation between the two countries.

The US Embassy spokesman emphasized further that the donations showed the US commitment to enhancing its security engagement with Kenya. 

He also acknowledged that Kenya had made bold actions to confront the nation’s growing security risks. 

Notably, the donations by the US came days after the DCI launched a crackdown on suspected drug peddlers in the capital.

The recent crackdown has seen over three people including Nancy Indoveria Kigunzu, alias ‘Mathe wa Ngara’ arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking.
