Veteran journalist Ben Ochieng Ogodo is dead
Journalist Ben Ochieng Ogodo has died, the Kenya Editors Guild (KEG) has announced.
In a statement, KEG CEO Rosalia Omungo said Opodo died in the early hours of Thursday, April 17, 2025.
“Ochieng had been feeling slightly unwell in recent days, attributing it to a mild flu,” Omungo said.
She said on Wednesday evening, Ogodo was in good spirits and even followed the Arsenal vs Real Madrid match, sharing his thoughts actively on Facebook.
At around 2am, while resting at home, he experienced sudden and severe chest pain.
He immediately alerted his children, who responded quickly by calling a cab and he was rushed him to Mama Lucy Hospital.
On the way, they also reached out to their uncle, Dan Ogodo, who met them at the hospital.
“Sadly, despite the prompt efforts, Ochieng was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital’s emergency section,” Omungo said.
Omungo requested prayers and support for Ogodo’s family as they go through this difficult moment.
“We are still coming to terms with this loss and ask for your prayers and support for the family during this difficult time,” she said.
“May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
Ogodo was a veteran science journalist who had worked for both local and international media houses.
