Detectives arrest ‘Mathe Wa Ngara’ businesswoman linked to drug trafficking after trailing her for hours.

Nancy Indoveria Kigunzu alias Mathe Wa Ngara, an alleged popular bhang seller in Ngara, Kamukunji Constituency, has been arrested in Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).

Kigunzu was arrested on Monday evening, August 21, on claims of drug trafficking.

The arrest came hours after the suspect, Nancy Indoveria Kigunzu moved to court to stop her imminent arrest.

Nancy had claimed in court that the investigative agencies launched a major hunt to unfairly arrest and charge her on trumped-up charges.

“I have never committed any crime in Kenya nor have I been involved in any criminal activities neither personally nor jointly with others and I therefore do not understand why the police are looking to arrest me,” she said in court papers filed by Advocate Shanice Maingi.

Kizungu had gone into hiding after her counterpart, Teresia Wanjiru, was arrested on Tuesday, August 15.

She was arrested by detectives who were trailing her for hours and driven to the DCI headquarters for grilling ahead of the planned arrangement on Tuesday.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), Wanjiru was arrested alongside three minors after Anti-Narcotics Unit and the Trans National Organised Crime Unit raided her place in the slums of Karuia within Ngara. 

A police source that Wanjiru allegedly works for Mathe, who is said to be the main bhang distributor with associates from Isebania, Busia, and Moyale where the products come from.
