We have no problem with Ruto being one-term President – Oscar Sudi

We have no problem with Ruto being one-term President - Oscar Sudi
Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi seems to be loosening his stance about President William Ruto’s re-election.
For a time, the outspoken legislator has held that Kenya has never had a president doing one term only, declaring that Ruto would not be an exception.
His statements were in light of the revolt against Ruto, whom a considerable section of Kenya wants out of office come 2027.
Sudi also responded to former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, who has numerously restated that Ruto will not be re-elected in the next general election.
The MP said the president and his camp have no problem if the former is not elected again in 2027, suggesting that the country would continue post the vote.
Sudi, however, said the president was already strategising for a win in the general election.
“I hear Rigathi Gachagua saying President William Ruto will go one term. We have no problem with him being a one-term president. So long as he (Gachagua) is already out, we will have no problem following him home. We know what we are doing, and we are going to plan ourselves accordingly,” Sudi said.

Meanwhile, Gachagua recently revealed that opposition parties will name their presidential candidate a few months before the 2027 polls.
Speaking in Machakos County on Tuesday, April 15, the former DP revealed December 2026 as the possible timeline to name the candidate who will challenge Ruto.
Gachagua added that talks were currently ongoing regarding the team to challenge Ruto in the next election.
Among those in the talks are Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa.
The former DP explained that the opposition team could not name their candidate in advance, expressing fears over a plot by the government to cause divisions among them.
“We shall remain silent until December 2026, when we will announce who the person is. If we talk right now, they will plot against us. We are patriotic, and we will put our selfish interests aside for the benefit of the people of this country,” he stated.
