We will only stop supporting Ruto if he leaves presidential bid to Raila – CS Mbadi

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has revealed that the Nyanza region will fully support President William Ruto’s re-election in the 2027 General Election.

Speaking on Friday, August 1, at a public rally in Homa Bay County, the CS expressed confidence in the working relationship between the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party and President Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

He reiterated that the unity between the two parties showed significant progress and could extend beyond the next general election.

However, Mbadi noted that the Nyanza region will only stop supporting Ruto’s presidential bid if he backs ODM party leader Raila Odinga’s presidential ambitions.

“ODM and UDA will work together until 2027 and even until 2032. We will continue supporting Ruto until Jesus one day decides to separate us,” Mbadi revealed.

“The only thing that could stop us from voting for Ruto is if he decides to support Raila for the presidency. That is the only thing that could stop us from supporting Ruto’s presidency,” he added.

At the same time, Mbadi took a swipe at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, dismissing any potential plans to work with him ahead of the next General Election.

While hitting out at Gachagua, the CS termed the former DP as hypocritical and opportunistic, claiming that the latter only wants support from the Nyanza region for his benefit.

“You see, the person who is currently calling us to go and join him in the opposition, when he joined the government, he said we can never get to State House,” the CS noted.

“Now we are in the State House, and he is no longer there. Now that he is lonely in the streets, he is again calling us to get out of the State House to support him. Are we stupid?” he questioned.

Meanwhile, CS Mbadi’s comments come hours after Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo asserted that support for Ruto in the upcoming 2027 General Election was not guaranteed.

Addressing Homa Bay residents yesterday, the vocal legislator dismissed claims that the opposition would automatically back Ruto’s presidential bid. Instead, she suggested that Ruto could equally drum up support for Raila.
