According to Arsene Wenger, Manchester City’s Champions League run may aid Arsenal in winning the Premier League this season.
The Gunners defeated Wolves 2-0 on Saturday to capitalize on Man City’s error against Brentford and move five points clear atop the Premier League standings.
This season, Mikel Arteta’s team has won 12 of their 14 Premier League games, with Manchester United serving as their lone loss.
Arsenal has additional strength in depth and quality thanks to the arrivals of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, as well as the return of William Saliba from a loan contract at Marseille.
Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, and others have also improved again this campaign and legendary former Arsenal boss Wenger thinks they will definitely be City’s closest challengers.
Wenger said on beIN Sports: “I think [Arsenal are City’s best challengers].
“And after, we don’t know about Liverpool, but they are already 11 points behind and 10 points behind Man City is a big mountain to climb.”
On whether City will still win it, Wenger added: “Yeah, personally I would put them [Arsenal] just behind City. [Arsenal are] the second best team to have a good chance to win the Premier League because Man City at some stage will focus highly on the Champions League.”
