Martha Karua tells IEBC to guarantee Kenyans that the August general elections will be free and fair.

Azimio deputy presidential candidate Martha Karua has urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to ensure that the August polls will be free and fair.

Speaking to Mt. Kenya TV and radio stations on Friday, July 29, Karua asserted that Kenya will be a peaceful nation before, during, and after the August 9 General Election if the IEBC maintained its impartiality in the elections.

“May God help the IEBC oversee a free and fair general election. If that is done, then we can build a new Kenya,” she said during a joint interview with Kameme, Meru, Inooro, Kigoco, Coro, Muuga, Wimwaro, and Gukenya stations.

“We trust that when processes are adhered to, then we can have a free and fair election,” she added.

“IEBC, do not preside over shambolic elections. The people’s will is more important than that of the [electoral agency’s] commissioners,” Karua said.

The NACK Kenya party leader said she and Raila Odinga are best suited to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta owing to their track record.

She said the Azimio government is ready to improve Kenya’s economy and combat graft in government.

“We have a track record that is known. Our previous work in public service was commendable. Raila Odinga and I are a safe pair of hands.”
