Western powers will not allow Raila at AU commission; Activists

Activists claim western powers will not allow Raila to succeed Moussa Faki as the chairperson of the African Union Commission

Activists claim western powers will not allow Raila to succeed Moussa Faki as the chairperson of the African Union Commission.

Although Raila is eligible for the role, the activists, who are affiliated with the Movement for Political Accountability Kenya (Mopa-Kenya), assert that the West will not permit him to lead the influential panel.

Bradley Ouna, national convener for Mopa-Kenya, stated that the West has always been threatened by Raila’s strong tendency towards justice for his people, which makes his leadership an issue of concern.

“In Kenya, Raila Odinga has five times alluded that he has been winning the presidency but Western interests have been at play to deny him the presidency by their interference in the presidential election results,” he said in a statement.

“This has been necessitated by their fear of having a strong leader in Africa, and especially Kenya, where they have great political and economic interests.”

The activists claim the Western interests will front a weaker candidate for the AU Commission seat, whose selection will be held at the AU Summit in 2025.

“We shall then see weaker and autocratic African leaders being called by the Western interests to withdraw their support for Raila and support the weaker candidate fronted by these countries,” Ouna said.

“It is due to these factors that we the Mopa-K movement, seek to ask Raila to withdraw his candidacy for the AU Commission chairmanship to avoid the embarrassing situation of being trounced by a weaker candidate, who is a puppet of the Western interests.”
