WHO responds on Kenyatta University-Uhuru land dispute

WHO responds on a controversial land dispute between Kenyatta University and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The Kenyatta University and President Uhuru Kenyatta have been engaged in a contentious land dispute that led to the suspension of VC Paul Wainaina.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has cleared itself of any wrongdoing in the KU land dispute.

WHO declared that it appreciated Uhuru’s administration’s donation of a 200-acre plot of land so that a cutting-edge emergency center could be constructed there.

In a statement on Thursday, July 14, Matshidiso Moeti, the head of the WHO in Africa, emphasized that meetings had been held with representatives from the foreign affairs and health ministries.

“We are aware that the land is owned by the government and the people of Kenya and continues to be so. We engaged in discussion with the government to host some additional functions,” she stated.

However, she pointed out that the hub will benefit all Kenyans because it will include regional offices of the WHO and an emergency unit that stores medications.

The facility will also assist the organization in streamlining its efforts to combat numerous illnesses, particularly zoonotic illnesses that transfer from animals to people.

“We must work together to stop Africa from becoming a hotspot for emerging infectious diseases by containing them before they cause widespread infections,” she stated.

Uhuru defended the government’s choice to give WHO the land and during a speech at the launch of the facility’s construction.

According to Uhuru, the facility would help Kenya gain international recognition.

He did point out that some people, most notably the administration of the university, were against the proposal, who he promised to take action against them.
