Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka now says that he called Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo and asked him to apologise to Raila Odinga over remarks that the Adani group funded their 2013 presidential campaign.
Kalonzo was responding to a question on whether it was true Adani funded the 2012 Cord presidential campaign, where he deputised Raila.
He went on to say that he is not aware of any such arrangement and that presidential candidates arrange their finances separately.
He added that he had since asked Maanzo to apologise to Raila because he is still his party leader.
“I called Dan Maanzo and told him that he needs to apologise to Baba (Raila Odinga) because Baba is still his party leader as of now,” Kalonzo said.
“I can tell you I wouldn’t know because when you have a presidential candidate, how they organise their finances is normally all left to themselves. When it comes to fundraising for a presidential campaign it is different.”
Kalonzo further denied knowing who Adani is, insisting that at no point did he ask Raila how much money he had raised for the campaigns.
The Wiper leader noted that he felt that doing so would be inappropriate.
“I don’t know. I have no idea who Adani is and I have never met him. I can tell you my experience, I never asked Raila Odinga how much money have you raised. Because it was not appropriate. I came out supporting Raila Odinga with my own resources,” Kalonzo said.

His remarks come a few days after the Makueni Senator sensationally claimed that Indian firm Adani Group sponsored Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s presidential campaign in 2012.
He claimed that it is why the former Prime Minister is now defending the company.
“Raila Odinga has admitted that he knew this company up to 2010 when he was Prime Minister. It was one of the companies sponsoring his campaign so that he could become president in 2012,” Maanzo said.
The Senator’s remarks came after Raila defended Adani Group, terming them a credible partner. The former Prime Minister argued that Adani’s capabilities surpass those of other firms in East Africa.
“Adani is a credible partner. They have proven their capabilities in projects that surpass what we have seen in East Africa,” Raila said.
