Azimio leader Raila Odinga confronts police after attempts to block him from accessing Narok town

Sunday, September 3, 2023 saw turmoil on the Narok-Nairobi Highway as police tried to block Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga from accessing Narok town.

Raila was on his way to Narok town after attending a church service and thanksgiving ceremony for MCA Christine Lemeon when police stopped his convoy outside Narok Boys High School.

In a video posted on social media, Raila is seen confronting the officers who blocked his convoy while being supported by senior Azimio officials, including former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugine Wamalwa.

However, the area OCPD was heard explaining to Raila that there was a “big procession” in Narok town and that the police’s interventions were meant to avoid any possible clashes.

Raila lamented that as a former prime minister, he did not deserve such a treatment.

“This is a highway you can not block someone because there is a procession in town, I am a former prime minister of this country,” Raila lamented as an impatient crowd charged at the police over their actions.

Wamalwa, on his part, wondered why the police could not escort them to town.

The politicians were later allowed to proceed with their journey.

Other leaders present were Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, former Nominated Senator Judith Pareno, and former Narok North MP Moitalel Ole Kenta among others.

Meanwhile, Raila accused Narok Governor of frustrating opposition parties in the county

He accused Governor Ole Ntutu of interfering with the ODM party in the county.

“Huyo gavana yenu eti anasema ati watu wa ODM wataenda wapi..waende wapi..yeye anajua siku ODM ilitengenezwa..” Said Raila

Raila further claimed that Narok Governor Ole Ntutu is using his position to rubber stamp his election that had been contested in court.

His challenger and former Narok North MP Ole Kenta, later withdrew the case in court handing Ole Ntutu a five-year reign at the helm of Narok County.

“Kama yeye anajiamini sii atoke ofisini turudi kwa debe…sisi tutamshinda” added the Azimio leader.
