Former President Uhuru Kenyatta, on Saturday, November 15, missed the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) founders’ dinner event, which was held at the Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort in Mombasa.
In a message read by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, former President Uhuru Kenyatta said he was unable to attend the event due to prior commitments.
The retired Head of State added that he had planned to discuss the matter with Raila Odinga, but unfortunately, the former Prime Minister passed away before they could deliberate.
“To the ODM family, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, let me begin by thanking the leadership of the Orange Democratic Movement for inviting me to join you as you mark your 20th anniversary.
“I had hoped to join you in person, but due to engagements booked earlier, I could not make it. In fact, that was an issue we were to discuss with my brother when he got back. Unfortunately, that did not happen,” said Uhuru.
The retired President noted that the ODM party was not born out of convenience but out of conviction.
Uhuru recalled several meetings held by members of the ‘Pentagon’ that led to the formation of ODM.
“I vividly remember the numerous meetings and engagements that gave life to the ODM. Indeed, it was a movement born not out of political convenience but out of conviction, a broad coalition then of political leaders who rallied the no campaign against the 2005 Kenyan constitution we were called Pentagon,” he stated.

Uhuru went on to say, Raila’s death continues to be felt across the country, but noted that the former Prime Minister will forever be remembered.
“Baba was not just a leader of ODM, he was the spirit of his struggle, he embodiment of courage, endurance, and unwavering faith in the Kenyan dream. His courage, resilience, and selflessness shaped not just the justice movement, but the very cause of Kenya’s political evolution,” he stated.
Further, Uhuru called on ODM leaders and members to continue with the fight for democracy, accountability, and inclusion.
“Let us keep alive his fight for democracy, accountability, and inclusion. Let us make real his vision of a Kenya where no child goes hungry, where justice is not for the privileged few, and where every Kenyan, young or old, has an equal opportunity to thrive.
“May the next phase of ODM be a testament of renewal, growth, and steadfast commitment to building a Kenya that truly belongs to all her citizens,” he concluded.
The ODM founder’s dinner event was graced by President William Ruto and other founding members, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and EAC CS Beatrice Askul.
