William Ruto will not participate in the Presidential Debate, his communication team says

The Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential candidate won’t take part in the much-awaited presidential debate, according to Deputy President William Ruto’s personal aide.
Emmanuel Talam, a communication assistant in the deputy president’s office, stated in a statement on Thursday, July 14, that Ruto would not take part in a discussion whose organizers have adopted a position.
According to Talam, the Media Council of Kenya has already demonstrated that it is in favor of Raila Odinga, a candidate for the Azimio la Umoja party.
Talam claimed that Ruto’s participation in the debate would be the same as putting an end to Raila Odinga’s presidential campaign.
“The Media Council confirms it supports Raila Odinga for president. Fair enough. But you can not have William Ruto for the presidential debate to sanitize your candidate. Have a field day with him. We are ok with the people,” Talam said.
Threats by Ruto’s aide come after the Media Council of Kenya report released on Wednesday, July 13, the MCK report showed that 49% of journalists prefer covering Raila’s event compared to 31% for William Ruto.
According to the MCK report, recent incidences where journalists were thrown out of William Ruto’s event contributed to his low rating.
MCK also noted that recent threats by Ruto to boycott the presidential debate also contributed to journalists’ negative ratings.
