Win for Kenya as a global body moves its headquarters to Nairobi

Global Centre for Adaptation’s Africa regional office (headquarters) moved from Ivory Coast to Nairobi, Kenya.

President William Ruto announced that the Global Centre for Adaptation’s Africa regional office will be transferred to Nairobi as Kenya continues to bask in the glory of successfully hosting Africa’s first Climate Summit. 

The Head of State made the announcement during the Africa Climate Summit event at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) that the organization had chosen to move its headquarters to Kenya due to the nation’s commitment to combating climate change.

“I am delighted to announce that as an outcome of this Summit, Kenya will host the GCA Africa Headquarters here in Nairobi,” he stated.

In his speech to the world, Ruto revealed that it is time for Kenya and Africa to look for internal solutions to address the climate change problems affecting the continent.

GCA which will now be headquartered in Nairobi is an international organization working as a solutions broker to accelerate action and support for adaptation solutions.

Currently, the African Regional Office of GCA is located in the headquarters of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

The global headquarters are in Rotterdam, Netherlands and the President announced that Kenya was working closely with the global centre. 

The body is supported by AfDB, African Heads of State and Governments, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the United Nations, and various Development Partners.

GCA works with its partners to align initiatives with global programs, coordinate projects across the continent, and deliver accelerated action for communities across Africa.
