Kalonzo condemns the government’s decision to withdraw the security of Chief Justice (CJ) Martha Koome.

Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has criticised the government’s alleged decision to withdraw the security detail of Chief Justice Martha Koome, demanding the immediate reinstatement of her bodyguards.

This comes after Koome, on Thursday, accused the government, through the Ministry of Interior, of withdrawing her state-issued bodyguards, a move she described as an attack on the Judiciary and the office of the Chief Justice.

In a statement on X on Friday, Kalonzo slammed the government’s move, describing it as an appalling action intended to undermine the autonomy of Koome’s office and the Judiciary.

“The withdrawal of the security assigned to protect the Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya is unacceptable and should be restored with immediate effect,” said the Wiper frontman.

“This despicable action is designed to undermine the independence of the office of the Chief Justice and by extension to the Judiciary and other independent institutions.

Musyoka also accused the Kenya Kwanza government of operating as a dictatorship and attempting to bring independent bodies under state control, opining that Kenyans would reject such actions.

“The unconstitutional assault on Parliament, constitutional commissions, independent offices and now with concerted subterfuge, to capture the Judiciary, shall be opposed and resisted by all law-abiding and spirited Kenyans,” he said.

Despite Koome’s claims, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja on Thursday maintained that the officers attached to Koome were either sent on training after promotion or procedurally transferred to other stations.

He noted that other officers have been reassigned to the Chief Justice as those who left prepare to start their promotional courses.

According to Kanja, there was poor coordination that led to the officers assigned to the Chief Justice leaving before the new ones arrived, causing the deployment gap.
