4 IEBC commissioners will still be investigated despite resigning with the tribunal set to hold a status conference.
Juliana Cherera, a former vice chair of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), and her three colleagues are still under investigation.
The tribunal looking into the four troubled commissioners of the electoral office announced that the investigations would start on Tuesday, December 20.
According to a statement made on Friday, December 9, Cherera and the other three, Justus Nyangaya, Francis Wanderi, and Irene Masit, would each be interrogated separately.
While Irene Masit filed an appeal against the probes, adamant that she would not be compelled to retire, Nyangaya, Francis Wanderi, and Cherera resigned from their positions.
The commissioners must be served with all pertinent documents by Monday, December 12 in order to give their individual legal teams enough time to reply, according to Justice Aggrey Muchelule, who serves as the tribunal’s chair.
Muchelule’s directive came barely days after Cherera, Nyang’aya and Wanderi tendered their resignation to President William Ruto.
The 4 IEBC commissioners were accused of attempting to subvert the people’s will in the August 9 polls by calling for rationalization of the presidential results.
Ruto appointed the Muchelule tribunal on Friday, December 2, after Parliament recommended the removal of the commissioners from office
The President also suspended the four commissioners prior to ordering a probe into their actions.
