Woman arrested at JKIA for attempting to smuggle Cocaine to India
A 25-year-old woman has been arrested at JKIA while attempting to smuggle cocaine out of Kenya.
DCI, in a statement on Friday, May 2, revealed that Caroline Wanjiku was travelling to India when she was arrested.
The investigative agency detailed that the woman had hidden the drugs in yellow tapes and stitched them to parts of her handbags.
“Her travel plans hit turbulence when sharp-sighted detectives flagged her down for a routine check. A quick inspection of her luggage led to the discovery of two suspicious smaller bags tucked inside,” read the statement in part.
“Upon opening them, detectives found a white powdery substance neatly packed and wrapped in yellow cellotape, definitely not your average souvenir.”
DCI added that the drugs were weighed and were estimated to be 1.3 kilograms.

“Wanjiku is currently cooling her heels at the JKIA Police Station, undergoing processing, awaiting her court appearance. Meanwhile, the seized narcotics are being detained as exhibits,” read the report in part.
“Her trip to Goa just turned into a staycation courtesy of the Anti-Narcotics Detectives.”
Kenyans have been in the spotlight in recent months over increased cases of global drug trafficking.
Most Kenyans who have been arrested in the past have been caught at airports in India and JKIA.
In some cases, Kenyans have faced harsh penalties abroad, including execution, because of the drug trade, as is the case with Margaret Nduta in Vietnam.
