Worshippers in Bomet burn an elderly woman suspected of witchcraft after she was found with ‘evil’ possessions like snakes and frogs
In a tragic incident, worshippers at a church in Kapkwen Bomet County set an elderly woman ablaze on Saturday in an attempt to rid her of so-called ‘evil’ possessions.
The worshippers from Bomet alleged that they had found the elderly woman with ‘evil’ possessions like snakes and frogs and argued that they had to burn her to remove those that were on her body.
In a chilling video, the church ushers led by the pastor placed the woman in the middle of a field and then tied her up. While the congregants were watching and giggling, other ushers were seen lighting a fire to burn her in.
Once the fire was lit, an usher held the woman by the legs while another held her by the hands and placed her over the fire while rotating her. Meanwhile, some of the congregants were heard chanting prayers.
“She came to church with her fellow witches and she had evil possessions. She had snakes and frogs plus some evil spirits. Luckily, the pastor was able to pray for and remove all those possessions,” one of the congregants said.
“To get them to come out completely, we had to take her outside and burn her. There is no way we could have left her with them, yet she came to us for help,” the congregant continued.

The elderly woman did not die but sustained serious injuries.
The pastor also disclosed the discovery of books and other items, such as people’s hair, which they believe she used for witchcraft, in addition to the snakes and frogs.
Following the bizarre incident, police had to shut down the church. The police established that apart from burning congregants, the church also goes further to cane congregants in a ritual meant to exorcise evil spirits.
The police came to light of the events after two women stormed out of the ritual as they could not stand watching it, they reported the incident at Kapkwen Police Station, prompting swift action by law enforcement officers.
Bomet County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga confirmed the closure and revealed that investigations into the church are going on.
Police have revealed that the search for the suspects who went into hiding continues as investigations aim to determine whether the church is legally registered.
